A fun read I appreciate a good adventure story with enough silly humor to keep it from getting boring and enough serious action to keep it from being a complete comedy.

Other reviewers have compared it to Firefly, which is true in that the ship has a mis-matched crew that is frequently on the wrong side of the law, and the characters are earthy, but the universe it is in is quite different.

Really great space adventure with an engaging cast of characters. I enjoyed the way the author moves around the crew, giving each one their time in the spotlight. It keeps the storylines fresh and interesting, even if you're reading several books in succession. The mix of magic and SF makes for a lot of fun, and yet the magic is not so powerful as to make everything too easy.

The generator is some distance away, and that is the rumbling noise they are hearing. They reach the generator room where the noise is deafening. The shadow hands each of them a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and puts one on as well. Mayor Jahns muses, wondering why the protective equipment is inside the noise zone.
